Lippmann,
Ott, and Wapelhorst Score in Local Junior Golf Bloomingdale, June 29, 2005
- On Wednesday, June 29th, the first of eight weekly
junior golf tournaments was held at the Glenwild Greens Par-3 course in
Bloomingdale. The event
generated winners in three age brackets.
In the 14 & over bracket, Ryan
Lippmann of Wayne shot a 32 to defeat Kyle Wiedemann (34) of Kinnelon
and Eric Frommer (36) of Wyckoff. Lippmann
balanced six pars and a bogey and two double-bogeys, including the 9th
hole, to earn his victory. A
triple-bogey on the difficult uphill 4th hole foiled
Wiedemann’s title run.
Alex Ott of Pompton Lakes birdied
the 1st hole, survived a storm delay and went on to notch a
victory in the 12-13 age bracket. Taylor
Crawley’s pars on the first three holes were his last, as he went on
to record a 34 and a second place finish.
Ryan Smith (40) of Bloomingdale finished in third place. David Wapelhorst of Kinnelon used
experience gained in the morning golf camp to win the age 11 and under
bracket with a score of 44. Wapelhorst
rattled the flagstick with his approach shot on the long 9th
hole and sunk the resulting 4-foot putt to preserve his one-stroke
victory. TJ MacDonald of
Kinnelon and Kenny Eisenhardt of Bloomingdale finished in second and
third place, respectively. [Back to Top][Home]

Crawley,
Szawaluk Win Golfing Daily
Double for Glen Rock - Brigham
Falls Short in Bid for Fourth Title Bloomingdale, August 10, 2005
- The seventh in a series of weekly junior golf tournaments was
held at the Glenwild Greens Par-3 course in Bloomingdale.
In the 12 and over age bracket,
Taylor Crawley of Glen Rock topped Tom Brigham of Bloomingdale, avenging
a loss to Brigham earlier in the season.
Five pars anchored a steady round by Crawley, while Brigham’s
three pars and a birdie (on the eighth hole) were offset by a quartet of
double-bogies, foiling his bid for another first place finish.
Cousins Robbie Thomson and Zach Eelen, steady performers
throughout the summer filled out the top five finishers along with Sean
Battles of Pompton Lakes. In the 11 & under age bracket,
Matt Szawaluk of Glen Rock fired back-to-back pars on the sixth and
seventh holes and then watched as late miscues from his opponents helped
him take home the winner’s trophy.
Jay Decker of Haskell, Sean Dubits of Wayne, and Brandon Crawley
of Glen Rock suffered scores of 8, 8, and 7 respectively on Glenwild’s
difficult finishing hole, thus falling behind the score posted by
Szawaluk.

Crawley, Stroever Win - Guggiari Falls in Playoff Bloomingdale, August 17, 2005 -
The last in a series of eight weekly junior golf tournaments was held at
the Glenwild Greens Par-3 course in Bloomingdale.
In the 12 and over age bracket,
Taylor Crawley of Glen Rock needed an extra hole to defeat James
Guggiari of Pompton Lakes. Both
players hit the green on the first playoff hole, but Gugguiari’s
birdie bid slid well past the hole and he failed to make the come-backer
as Crawley tapped in for par and the win.
Both players had steady rounds in regulation play, Crawley making
five pars to six by Guggiari, en route to their matching scores of 31.
Craig Doller of Hawthorne (34), Sean Battles of Pompton Lakes
(34) and Greg Andrake of Glen Rock (36) rounded out the top five
finishers. In the 11 & under age bracket,
Chris Stroever of Oradell played the last four holes in one-under par to
win the trophy. The
scorching finish allowed Stroever to overcome triple-bogies on the first
and fourth holes. Previous
tournament winners Brandon Crawley of Glen Rock, Matt Szawaluk of Glen
Rock and Tyler Crocco of Wyckoff rounded out the top five finishers
along with Robert Wapelhorst of Oradell.

August 24, 2005 For Immediate Release: ======================================================================= Ramsey
Junior Golfers Win at Glenwild Inter-Town Golf Match - Brigham Leads
Tri-boro Team to Second Place Finish Bloomingdale, August 24, 2005
- The Glenwild Greens Golf Course in Bloomingdale held a Junior
Inter-Town Team golf match as a season finale to a series of individual
golf tournaments. Golfers
from age 8 to 14 competed in a high school style format, where the best
four of six scores counted toward the team total.
In all, eight teams competed in what was a fun-filled and
competitive morning of golf.
Team Ramsey, consisting of Rob
Archetti, Taylor Derleth, John Ehrline, and Patrick Rutkowski, took the
overall title with a composite score of 159.
Rutkowski’s score of 35 paved the way, with a birdie on the
difficult fifth hole offsetting a pair of double-bogies at the first and
last holes. Team Triboro
(165) rode the coattails of Bloomingdale’s Tom Brigham to a second
place finish, with contributing scores from DJ Escue of Kinnelon (42),
and Kevin Fitzpatrick (46) and Steven Rizzo of Bloomingdale (42).
Brigham’s steady round of 35 included four pars over
Glenwild’s challenging par 27 nine-hole layout.
Nine year-olds Kenny Eisenhardt and David Wapelhorst of
Bloomingdale shared in the success of the team. Taking third place was the
Ridgewood-C Team of Griffin Abbott (44), Cooper Byrne (43), Chris Chersi
(47), Andrew Toner (37), and Kenny Turnbull (42).
Toner’s round included a birdie and two pars which
counterbalanced a quadruple-bogey 7 on the uphill fourth hole.
Cooper Byrne righted a sinking ship, after making 7’s on three
of the four opening holes, as he went on to shoot two-over par on the
final five holes, including 3 consecutive pars, to help his team to the
winner’s podium. Other teams included Glen Rock
(175), led by Taylor Crawley (32), Ridgewood-B (180), led by Greg
Resnick (43), Lakeland (Pompton Lakes and Oakland) (182) led by Curtis
Miezeiwski (43), North Caldwell (188) led by Alan Jacobsen (40), and a
youthful Ridgewood-A (208) team led by Jay Decker (46).
Crawley’s up and down journey combined two birdies with a
double and triple bogey, to notch the low individual round of the day. "Everyone looks at our (Glenwild
Greens) scorecard and thinks ‘Hey, I can go low here’," says
head pro and camp director Bruce Chamberlain.
"“But the reality is that this is
a very challenging golf course where a small mistake can be very costly.
Just look at Taylor’s (Crawley) round.
His tee shot on number eight was just yards off the green, but he
had to take a penalty drop and still faced a difficult chip.
There are no ‘gimmies’ out here.
Patrick (Rutkowski), Andrew (Toner) and Cooper (Byrne) can attest
to that." PGA pro Tad Kowal, an instructor at the summer camps, sizes up the
ninth hole, "It’s as difficult a par-3 as you’ll find in the
state (of NJ). From 170
yards, it might just be easier to hold a shot on a ping-pong table."
