Bloomingdale, August 11, 2006  At the Glenwild Greens Golf Course in Bloomingdale, 54 local area junior golfers teed it up in the second and final "major" tournament held this summer at Glenwild.  First-time winners took home first-place trophies in all four of the age brackets, as several former champions watched their efforts come up just short of the mark.  James Guggieri, a 13 year-old Pompton Lakes native, turned in the low round of the day with a sparkling 3-over par 30.  "Some of the hole locations were tough today," commented host pro and tournament director Bruce Chamberlain.  "His (Guggieri’s) round was a great performance."

In the 14-and-over bracket, Justin Peterson of Bloomingdale held off a struggling group of competitors to bring home the first place trophy, his first after three years of tournament play at Glenwild.  Mike Aungst of Riverdale and Alex Ott of Pompton Lakes took second and third respectively, while former multiple-winner Mike Fitzpatrick limped in with a 43.

Guggieri was the class of the field in the age 12-13 bracket, lapping the field by more than a stroke per hole.  James highlighted his round with birdies on the third and eighth holes, with putts of 3 feet and 10 feet respectively.  Robbie Thompson of Kinnelon and Connor Walsh of Butler tied for second with scores of 43.  Thompson won the tie-breaker for second place with a par on the first extra hole.

In the age 10-11 bracket, Alex Graham of Kinnelon capped off his first year of golf with a first place showing in his first-ever tournament.  Graham managed just one par, but a steady round that avoided any "blow-up" holes sealed the deal for the tournament rookie.  Last month’s Glenwild Masters champion Kuriko Tsukiyama of Bogota broke the three-way tie for second with a 6-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, to foil two excellent tee shots by Matt Quigley of West Milford and Marc Giammarella of Mahwah.

Michael Mazza of Ringwood sank a four-footer for birdie on the third hole and missed a two-footer for birdie on the eighth, en route to a three-stroke victory over Matthew Carbone of Glen Rock and Jack Walter of Ringwood in the age 9-and-under bracket.  For Walter, it was his second third place trophy of the summer.
