Four age-bracket champions emerged, two new and two defenders, from closely contested divisions; one playoff, two 2-stroke victories and one 4-stroke "runaway." Age 14 & Over: Winner Curtis Miezeiewski (33) of Oakland started well with a par, only to follow with six straight bogies. Pars on the final two holes sealed the deal for Curtis, while Jag Chilana (35) of Franklin Lakes combined four pars with two bogeys and three double bogeys in an up-and-down round. Greg Resnick (38) and Russell Tanner (39) of Ridgewood and Mike Aungst (42) of Riverdale followed closely behind.
Curtis Miezeiewski of Oakland (center) holds the 1st place trophy in the 14 & over age bracket, as Jag Chilana (left/2nd place) and Greg Resnick of Ridgewood (3rd) join the winner's circle. Age 12-13: Kulpreet Chilana (41) of Franklin Lakes needed a second hole
of sudden-death to defend his title and stave off Jay Decker (41) of
Haskell. Both players
triple-bogied the difficult ninth hole, only to come back with pars on
the first playoff hole. A
trio of players from Wayne, Patrick Barrechchia (44), Zach Post (45) and
Mike Metta (45) rounded out the top five positions.
Sean Dubits (46) of Byram Twp (formerly of Wayne) and Joe Presti
(47) finished close behind the leaders.
(l. to r.) Runner-up Jay Decker of Haskell and winner Kulpreet Chilana of Franklin Lakes display their trophies. Kulpreet won the title on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Age 10-11: Kuriko Tsukiyama (32) of Bogota defended her one-stroke
victory in the 2006 tourney with a convincing four-stroke victory, which
was also the low round of the day for the tournament.
The female phenom survived a double-bogey on the ninth hole,
while failing to convert several short birdie opportunities.
Consistent top-finisher Matt Quigley (36) of West Milford birdied
the first hole, but missed several short par putts on his way to the
second place finish. Brian
Cami (38), Conor Dillon (42), Jack Macnee (43) (all of Ridgewood), Kevin
Fitzpatrick (43) of Bloomingdale and Thomas DelliSanti (44) also turned
in fine performances. “We knew Kuriko was something special when we had
her in camp as an 8-year old. We’re
so glad that she comes back so we can watch her grow as a player and a
young lady,” beamed golf camp and tournament director Bruce
Chamberlain. “I think
this is the first time that we’ve had current and/or former campers
sweep the titles. Obviously, that adds a special touch for me personally.”
(l. to r.) Brian Cami of Ridgewood, Matt Quigley of West Milford, and Kuriko Tsukiyama of Bogota, display the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place trophies respectively, at the recent Glenwild Greens Junior Masters tournament. Age 9 & Under: Steven Gakos (36) of Kinnelon turned in a steady performance
to post the low round in the peewee bracket.
Gakos offset seven 4’s with one par and one double-bogey to
take home the first-place trophy. Brendan
Less (38) of Kinnelon made three straight pars on holes five through 7,
only to fade and post a bogey/triple-bogey finish.
Friends Kevin
Schroeder (40) and Colin Crowley, both of Ridgewood, capped off a week
of golf camp with matching scores for a third place tie. Francis Escolin (42) of Rutherford, Richard Neufeld (47) of
Kinnelon, and Logan Escue (49) of Kinnelon rounded out the top
finishers.
