Defending
Champs Successful at Pairs Scramble Tournament Bloomingdale, August 21, 2004 - If judged by the scores on the final hole, it was the tournament nobody wanted. Most of the leaders, including the winners, scored a bogey on the home hole. In the end, the defending champion father-son duo of Mike and Mike, Jr. Fitzpatrick persevered over 39 other teams in the 2nd annual Pairs Scramble held at Glenwild Greens Golf Course. Defending champions also repeated in both of the other competitive brackets. Competing in the Adult-Junior
division, the Fitzpatrick’s struck an early lead at 2-under par
through 5 holes, including a missed 1-footer for birdie.
However, bogeys on two of the last three holes allowed two
Kinnelon teams a shot at the title. In both cases, the Hartline’s
(Jerry and son Ryan) and the Wiedemann’s (John and son Kyle) fell prey
to the difficult 9th hole, both teams posting scores of bogey
4 to finish in second and third place respectively. Mike Fitzpatrick helps Mike, Jr. line up a putt on the 9th green. In the Junior-Junior bracket,
Scott Cahayla and Brian Sikel of Ringwood juxtaposed 2 bogeys against 7
pars in a steady round of 29, good for a two-stroke victory over Curtis
Miezeiwski and Mike Yarish of Oakland.
Just one stroke back in a tie for third were cousins Lauren
Chamberlain (Kinnelon) and Jennifer Lenthe (Butler) along with brothers
Kevin and Ryan Fontanazza of Butler. Scott Cahayla and Brian Sikel of Ringwood confer on the 7th green. In the Adult team category, Steve
DePascale and Lou Ramirez of Butler shot a 28 to hold off a charging
Kelly Frieling and Tom Carroll of Morristown.
Frieling and Carroll birdied the 135 yard fifth hole and then
scored par on each of the final four holes to come up one stroke short
of denying the DePascale and Ramirez a repeat trip to the winner’s
circle. Tied for third were
Nikki Carroll and Mike McCarthy of Wayne and Scott Sinopoli and Al Tapia
of Butler. (l.

to go low," commented host pro and tournament director Bruce
Chamberlain. "There
is more to this track than yardage on a scorecard - every shot demands
precision. The scores we
saw today are very commendable." Glenwild Greens Golf Course plays
